Hey Guys, this is Shahnoor again! Claire is visiting London right now so she is unable to post this week. Don't worry she's coming back soon :) She plans to talk about the story's creative development on the next post, so right now you're going have to bear with me as we continue to breakdown my research.
First, I am going to dive into the interview with the CASSY counselors. In general, they have a very strong belief that introspection is the biggest factor of Emotional Intelligence. Empathy, management, stress, controlling one's emotions strongly count on how much you know yourself. If you can determine what feelings you are experiencing, such as anger, you have the ability to take some deep breaths and control it. If you know what makes you stressed then you can treat it by doing things you love, analyzing the situation and etc. Once your reach your core self you find it easier to solve problems.
Back to the interview: although the counselors were uninformed about measuring EQ, they suggested that I could base my measurements from Emotional Levels 1-10. Basically 7 is the "ideal" number; anything below 7 means one makes his or her decisions that's dominated by logic, sort of detached from emotions; while anything above 7 means that one makes his or her decision based on his/her emotions. By itself, it doesn't determine EQ but it's a start! I plan to place an Emotional Level self-assessment at the beginning of the game so we base their EQ off of their level...but it might get complicated. THIS IS NOT THE OFFICIAL PLAN! Just an idea. Excuse me for yelling :P Overall, I am contacting more professionals who specialize in the EQ field but I have trouble connecting with them. Let's be real here: who wants to talk to a high school student? But I am not going to give up! and I am doing more research :)
Right now I can inform you that Claire and I are not dying. We came up with a bunch of choices and scenarios that are sort of out-of-the box--like should you say hi to this alien dude or punch it? Okay that's sounds silly but you know what I mean. All these scenarios have to do with morality and critical thinking; though, there are some fun riddles. We really have to dig deep.
But sometimes it's hard to find inspiration. Sometimes when Claire and I meet at Philz we sort of lose the enthusiasm and become brain dead. So we end up sitting quietly and finishing our coffee, maybe some small talk here and there. We need to realize that we should have fun with ourselves. Claire mentioned in the first post that we are a couple of longtime friends having an adventure! Putting a lot of time and effort in this project is important but in order to find fantastic ideas, we need to give our brains a break and just sit back and enjoy our life.
Until then,
Shahnoor
I really like your guys' determination for this project! I agree that sometimes it is hard to find inspiration. Honestly, my best ideas come when I least expect it to and when I'm not thinking about the problem at all. However, I suggest you guys take a look at the book Mirroring People by Marco Iacoboni. During my power reading for class, I especially thought the chapter, Emphatic Mirrors, was really interesting and I think reading this may give you guys some inspiration. Good luck! :)
ReplyDeleteI really like how you are still persevering to finish your research pertaining to this project. It's actually really inspiring! You did mention that you and Claire become brain dead after a while when you meet up. What I suggest, as you said, is to just have fun with your project! Don't make it such a big deal that you end up stressing yourselves out because that is exactly the opposite of what this project is supposed to do. Good luck in your research and I can't wait to see where you guys take this!
